It is recommended that every year you go in for a physical with your doctor. I am not sure how many of us actually follow this advice, but let me tell you it is a great tool to increase your health. Back in 2003 when I went in for a physical – my doctor found a lump in my neck that turned out to be thyroid cancer. Boy, was I ever glad for the doctor’s assessment of my health. Now, just over eight years later I am healthier because of his diagnosis.
Having a spiritual health check-up is just as imperative.
1 Timothy 4:8 says this, “Physical training is good, but training for Godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and the life to come.”
40 Days in the Word will help you with a spiritual check-up. It will help you answer the question “Where is my spiritual health at? “
But more than a diagnosis it will give you the treatment that you need to grow in Godliness! And who doesn’t want that!?!
No matter where your spiritual health is right now there is one activity that can help more than any other to improve it.
It is engaging with God’s word.
Getting into scripture is THE best thing we can be doing as we strive to be Godly men and women. Whether we’re just exploring who Jesus is, or have been growing closer to Jesus for decades... this is what will jumpstart or build upon our relationship with God.
We know many people struggle to get into scripture. It could be a matter of discipline, schedule, laziness or priority shuffling; could be that you just don’t know HOW to get into scripture; could be that you haven’t gotten much out of it recently. Or it could be that you’re not sure if you even believe the Bible is actually God’s word to us.
Regardless of the reason, the upcoming “40 Days in the Word” series will help us tackle them, wrestle with them and overcome them! It will aid us in not only building a habit of getting into scripture, but also of HOW to get into scripture!
Do not let this opportunity slip by. This is a great chance to experience a scripture focused study with others and jump start your spiritual life!
This series was developed with small groups in mind. They are the vehicle - the tool - that helps us learn and grow and be healthy spiritually. If you are not in a group for this series, you are missing out! Get yourself in a small group for 40 Days in the Word. The great thing is these are short term, 6 week groups! Be bold, step out of your comfort zone and trust God!
