Calgary is one of the fastest growing cities in North America. Over the past few years, in excess of 30,000 people per year have arrived in the city with the intention of starting new careers and lives. Although there has been rapid economic and population growth, the city has not experienced the same explosive spiritual growth. The Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches in Calgary have watched Calgary grow with a sense that God is moving in the city and there is anticipation that the Holy Spirit will move his people to reach out to this surge of newcomers.
In response to God’s calling, the Western District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance committed to planting a new church in the south western portion of the city. This church plant is part of the multi-site plant philosophy of RockPointe Church (RPC). The plant involves the direct co-ordinated effort of RockPointe Church, the Western District Office, Ambrose University College (formerly AUC-NUC) and Strathcona Christian Fellowship (SCF). The aspiration is to provide a new church on the west side of Calgary that will have a passionate desire to reach out to those who do not know God by demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ.
The Westhills of SW Calgary is that area west of Sarcee Trail, north of Hwy #8, south of Canada Olympic Park. Westhills encompasses 15 existing communities with a current population of about 60,000 people. The area is under rapid development and the population is projected to double within the next 20 years.
