Elders Board Reports
Process and Update on Hiring our Lead Pastor

From the Elders Board - January 2012

January 28 & 29, 2012

From the Elders Board,

The Elders met for their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, January 19. We were pleased to be joined for dinner by five new members, Rhonda McNally, Barry and Lorna Mjolsness and Brandon and Briana Trotter. It was a privilege to get to know these new members and welcome them into membership at RPC.

The Elders continue to discuss a number of ongoing property items. We are pleased to announce that the Westhills land at 8259 17th Avenue has sold.  The sale closed on January 17th for the negotiated gross sale price of $4.15 million. In addition, work continues on preparations for the Bowridge Site renovation. In October, we advised that the Rockyview County had inquired about the possibility of acquiring some of our Bearspaw property for use as a Rockyview County Fire Hall.  We have been advised that the County has opted to utilize another piece of property they already own.  Finally, we continue to await the closing of the sale of the 77th Street property in the Westhills area. Thank you so much for your prayers regarding these property concerns. We ask that you continue to pray for the Bowridge renovation and the disposition of the 77th Street property.

We continue to make great progress on our search for a new Lead Pastor.  After interviewing a number of highly qualified candidates, we have identified a short list of three individuals  that we wish to engage in the next level of interviews. From this short list, we hope to be able to invite one person to participate in a candidating event in the not too distant future.  We continue to ask you to uphold this process in prayer for both our church and the search process as well as for clear leading for the candidate that God would have for RPC.

The Elders approved three disbursements from the Kingdom now funds.  The first disbursement was $7,500 for the Alliance Women Canada’s ‘It Starts with a Girl’ project. The Alliance Women are trying to raise $150,000 for the Niger Vocational Training School’s Girls at Risk program. A number of RPC women served at this school during the Niger mission trip in August. These funds are coming from the Global Outreach component of the Kingdom now campaign.

The second disbursement relates to technical upgrades from the Kingdom now funds. This disbursement was for $14,000 for the acquisition of a new sub-woofer audio system for the Bearspaw site and the acquisition of two audio compressors for the Bowridge site that will allow the translation of audio to video.

The third disbursement is $5,500 of funding from the Facility upgrade portion of the Kingdom now campaign to provide for the acquisition of new technical arts equipment for the MetroMercy site.

Finally, the Elders reviewed the financial statements for the end of December 2011. We are thankful for the generous support of the congregation as we approached the end of the calendar year. However, donations were below budget. Thanks to the staff who were able to keep expenses below budget as well, resulting in a balanced statement at the end of 2011. The Elders are concerned about the givings going forward and as a result, are instructing staff to work to reduce ministry expenditures. Please continue to pray for wisdom in managing the finances of RPC and how God may be leading your giving.

If you have any questions regarding this report or other issues, please do not hesitate to contact any of the Elders.

From the Elders Board - October 2011

October 22/23, 2011

From the Elders Board,

The Elders met for their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, October 13.  As this was the first meeting following the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Elders would like to thank all those who attended the AGM either in person or by proxy.  We reviewed the evaluations of the meeting and found that the format and content of the meeting were well received and the concluding fellowship time was enjoyed by those who attended.

The Elders were joined briefly by Tim and Luke Bergmann.  Tim provided an update on his health and current situation.  The Elders then spent time praying for Tim’s physical and emotional health.  We would ask that you continue to uphold Tim in prayer as he continues to struggle with health issues.

The Elders started their review of their Ministry Action Plan (MAP) for 2011-2012.  It is expected that a final MAP will be completed following our November 2011 meeting.

The Elders also approved a People Care Policy.  This policy will be used by the People Care Team to oversee and guide both the internal and external people care/compassion initiatives and activities of RockPointe Church.  The People Care Ministry concentrates their efforts in five functional areas: acts of kindness, counselling, visitation, financial needs, and formal partnerships with other like-minded organizations.

The Elders continue to monitor the transition staffing levels to ensure they are adequate as we continue the search for a new Lead Pastor and accommodate other staffing needs at this time.  The Elders also reviewed the ongoing financial position of the church.  We would like to thank the congregation for their generous donations to date this year.  Unfortunately, donations continue to be below budget. We would ask you to prayerfully consider if you are able to assist in bringing these donations back on budget before the end of December.

Finally, the Rockyview County (location of the Bearspaw Site), has approached RPC about acquiring some of our Bearspaw property for use as the Rockyview County Fire House.  We are in preliminary discussions with the county but believe that this opportunity would be significantly advantageous to both us and our community. If you have any questions regarding this report or other issues, please do not hesitate to contact any of the Elders.

From the Elders Board

The Elders opened their June 29 meeting with a time of corporate prayer for items relating to both ongoing and transitional issues at RockPointe. The Elders also noted with pleasure the number of people heeding God’s prompting in their lives to be baptised during the opportunities provided in the last few weeks.
