Four Focuses

1. Church Planting

RockPointe’s deeply held desire is to authenticate Jesus’ life and love to as many Calgarians as possible. We want the whole city to receive the Gospel.   We seek to do this by being purposeful in our relationships and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak into and through us to those who do not know the Lord.

We believe God has given us a vision to accomplish this goal by planting new churches in the least reached areas of Calgary and beyond.  We currently have four sites (Bowridge, Bearspaw, Westhills, MetroMercy), and are devoted to seeing these congregations grow and be healthy, outward focused churches for the Kingdom.

The church planting component of KINGDOM now is targeted at providing the seed capital needed to support two new church plants, including the costs of facility rentals and all equipment needed for worship, communication and children’s programs.

As each new launch is asked to become self-sustaining within four years time, this seed money will provide the necessary tools for our church planting efforts to develop from a position of strength. We believe now is the time to gather the harvest in Calgary and area for the glory of God.

2. Facility Upgrades

KINGDOM now includes facility upgrades at Bearspaw and Bowridge as well as provision of ministry space at Westhills and MetroMercy.

Bearspaw

At Bearspaw, we are blessed to have a large worship space that will support congregational growth in worship attendance. However, Bearspaw’s overall space layout is not balanced in terms of matching adult versus children’s space needs. As a result, we need to either extend part of the building or add portables to accomodate the ever increasing children’s attendance. KINGDOM now will bring a long term solution to this need, and address other minor facility enhancements throughout the building. External storage is also required to house equipment on-site.

Bowridge

The Bowridge site is strategically located in a growing area of the city and close to major roads. But the building is in need of significant upgrades - both in structure and functionality. With these changes, it is felt that this site could service a congregation double its present size.  As such, the objective is to improve the facility so as to allow the Bowridge site to grow and provide effective ministry space for 800+ people.

It is important to recognize that the current state of the Bowridge property is not consistent with our value system. We do value utility, simplicity and multi-use in our facilities, but we also value doing things well, ensuring proper maintenance, and providing good ministry functionality. Our care for our buildings says a lot about our stewardship and sense of self; we have let Bowridge slip away from who we really are and want to be. The KINGDOM now funds will bring meaningful upgrades in ministry functionality, facility integrity and appearance at Bowridge.

Westhills and MetroMercy

To be more effective in our Kingdom impact, new church plants need to establish a space where they can be ‘present’ throughout the week within their respective communities. As a result, it is imperative that we secure permanent facility space, even on lease, until a new site becomes self-sustainable.
We have recently acquired, via a long term lease, 24/7 space for our Westhills site in the Springborough Professional Center.  The Westhills Centre is used for discipleship, outreach programs, community gatherings, other meetings and office space. Our worship services are still held at Ambrose University College located immediately west of the Westhills Centre. The lease costs for both the Westhills Centre and Ambrose space come from the Ministry Fund.

Our MetroMercy site downtown currently holds its services at the Amsterdam Rhino bar and has very recently found office/meeting space next door - all of this at essentially little to no cost. The Amsterdam Rhino has been a very effective worship setting during our initial startup period but soon will become a challenge space-wise as our ministry continues to grow.

With this in mind, it is intended to use funds from the KINGDOM now campaign for phased support for the next two years of facility costs at our Westhills site (if required) and the next four years at our MetroMercy site.

Five Year Tech Renewal

The Kingdom advances as we clearly communicate the person, message and effect of the Gospel to as many people as possible; that requires great communication equipment.

As approved by the Elder’s Board and the congregation, the Five Year Tech Renewal Plan is well underway.  We have now completed most of the first two phases of this plan and are enjoying the benefits. An additional $300,000 will allow completion of much of the planned costs for phases three through five.

3. Debt Reduction

Currently, our debt stands at approximately $1.86 million.  Making a significant reduction to our indebtedness will further our financial health, redirect resources to ministry and free us to be used by God for the furthering of His KINGDOM now.

4. Global Outreach

RockPointe is a member of a great family of Alliance churches that has a rich heritage of focused missions work worldwide.  We wish to remain in tune with how God is advancing His Kingdom and deepen our participation in extending and strengthening the hands of our international workers.
Our International Workers are often presented with specific needs in their communities and strategic Gospel dispensing opportunities, but lack the resources to follow through.

As the Alliance continues to move into the least reached and most difficult regions of the world, our response will be to offer our support to a variety of missions projects through the RockPointe Global Outreach team.  Ten percent of all donations to the KINGDOM now initiative will be invested in spreading the Good News. As we do so - His Kingdom comes.

Outreach to Serbia

Our first Global Outreach investment from the KINGDOM now campaign will be helping Danny and Vera Kuranji in their mission. Danny and Vera are Serbian-born Canadians with a moving story of God directing them to return to Serbia after living in Canada for 10 years, to share the message of His love and how He is working in their lives.  They are Christian & Missionary Alliance Global Partners leading the Novi Sad Christian Fellowship church which they founded in 1992.  Besides giving pastoral leadership to the Church, the Kuranjis began a Hospice ministry which now serves almost 200 palliative patients and in 2009, they followed God’s leading to establish a Drug Rehab Centre with the first graduates of the program this spring.  God is working through both these significant ministries with individuals and families coming to know Jesus.  There were 140 new guests at their Winter Alpha program; many of whom were family members of the palliative patients and “rehab boys”. The KINGDOM now campaign will enable us to partner with the Kuranji’s in their Hospice and Rehab ministries; $25,000 of support will be sent and shared between both projects.
