Elder's Information

The Elders Board is elected from the membership of RockPointe Church for the purpose of working with the Lead Pastor to establish and implement the mission, vision and directional plan of the church. We believe that God has established the local church as a primary vehicle for establishing and furthering his Kingdom here on earth. As a local church, it is our highest priority to worship God and fulfill the Great Commission.

The governance and operation of RockPointe Church is structured around the principle that the Elders Board most effectively provides ‘oversight to the local church’ when it focuses on clearly defining the mission and vision of the church (the outcomes). Once these outcomes are understood, the Elders Board works with the Lead Pastor to establish measurable results that are quantifiable and achievable (e.g. growth in worship attendance, number of conversions, baptisms, growth in small groups, volunteer involvement levels, special projects and initiatives).

In turn, the ministry operating staff (the pastors, paid staff, ministry team leaders, lay workers) most effectively contribute to local church goals when they have both the responsibility and accountability to establish the means of ministry - program design, methods and procedures. People will be most committed to achieving the desired results if they have meaningful input and say in defining the means to achieve the vision or ‘how to get the job done’.

AboutUs Elders MattB

Matt Boda
Lead Pastor

Our Lead Pastor was born in Philadelphia, but raised in Regina and is proudly Canadian. Matt has been married to Jamie for almost 34 years and together, they have five daughters, four sons-in-law and eight grandkids. He began following Christ at age 18 and has served in pastoral roles in Kelowna, Regina, Philadelphia, Calgary and Salem, Oregon. Matt loves hanging with family and friends, giving talks about the most important stuff in life, seeing leaders increase their influence and watching people grow. Reading, sports and the outdoors are also a big part of his life. Matt says he's working hard to live as a called rather than driven man in his pursuit to love God, live all his life in His grip and love those around him well.

AboutUs Elders NormaR

Norma Reynolds
Westhills Site Elder

Norma grew up in rural Saskatchewan in a loving but unchurched family. As a child and teenager she had no exposure to the Lord, the church or faith. She was introduced to Christ through a dear friend and work colleague, who invited her to Christian Business & Professional Women's Club dinners, and through her witness and the testimony of other women the Holy Spirit captured Norma’s heart and she made the decision to invite Christ to be her Lord and Saviour on January 26, 1989. In 2015, she retired from her 38-year career in the public sector of Saskatchewan and subsequently moved to Calgary in January 2016 to be close to family (children and grandchildren). On her first Sunday in Calgary, she attended RockPointe Westhills with a friend and instantly felt welcomed. She appreciated the preaching, the worship, the focus on prayer and felt this was a church led by the Holy Spirit. Norma is a single woman with two adult children and four grandchildren. She recently retired from a part time instructor role at Bow Valley College. She is involved in seniors ministry and prayer ministry at Westhills. Her hobbies are fitness related, reading, cooking, entertaining and of course spending as much time as possible with the grandkids.

AboutUs Elders DylanS

Dylan Squires
Bearspaw Site Elder

Dylan grew up in a faith-filled family. His dad was a pastor and his mom was a key influence in his faith journey as well. A pivotal time in Dylan’s life was when he was baptized at the end of his grade 12 year. It was an important step for him in obedience and identity and he believes that choice set him on a positive trajectory. Moving to Calgary after highschool to attend Ambrose University, Dylan learned a great deal about opening himself up to the Lord and to allowing Him to mold and shape him like the potter shapes clay (Isaiah 64:8). While attending Ambrose, Dylan started going to Bearspaw with his brother, and that's where he met his wife Christine. Christine and Dylan have been married for three and a half years. They live in Cochrane (where Dylan works for the Town of Cochrane on their HR team) and they enjoy spending time with friends, playing volleyball, getting out to the mountains, and travelling.

AboutUs Elders JoyB

Joy Berner
Bowridge Site Elder

Joy was raised in a Christian family and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour at nine years old. She grew up on a farm and her parent’s faith was very practical, helping and being helped by neighbours, giving even when it hurt. She has been attending RockPointe since 1998 (when it was called Bow Valley Alliance), and she’s always appreciated the warm family-like atmosphere, the upbeat worship, and the great preaching. Joy is currently Director of Operations at Garmin Canada. She has been married to her husband Lorenz for eight years and they live on an acreage between Cochrane and Calgary. Much of their time in the summer is spent working to complete the yard and gardening—they love to grow their own vegetables! For fun, Joy loves a wide range of outdoor fitness activities like running, hiking, kayaking, and biking.

Dean has been married to his lovely wife Michelle for 20 years, and have a daughter Jordan (15), and a son Brayden (14). They enjoy camping as a family, as well as a variety of mountain-based activities. They started coming to RockPointe Church in 2013, and attend the Westhills site.
