Family, Faith and Fun - Jan 2019

This one-day family event on Saturday, January 19 from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm is for all parents (and grandparents!) who want to hone their skills to better equip the kids in their life to navigate the world we live in, have some family fun time, and enjoy delicious food! RockPointe Kids is excited to once again be hosting this annual workshop for families, and we’re looking forward to what is sure to be a great day. We believe it will be a day of encouragement + education for all and can’t wait! While parents attend breakout sessions, we will be running separate programming for the kids.

After the morning workshops, we will come together for lunch (hot dog stand, taco stand, chicken fingers with fries + a salad bar along with tea, coffee + juice) with time for family fun activity stations. Then it’s off to afternoon workshops for parents and some more kids program adventures! Registration will close at 12:00 noon on January 15.

Here’s a look at the breakout sessions (parents will be able to attend 4 of the sessions):

Redeeming Love: Everyday Conversations on Gender and Sexuality
(Jojo Ruba, Faith Beyond Belief)
How can Christians navigate discussions on gender identity when friends or family members come out as transgender? How do we speak on gender and sexuality issues with grace and truth? It starts with understanding what real biblical love looks like and trusting that God’s commands on gender and sexuality are both true and good. In this presentation, we will look at what real love looks like and how it will help us navigate through our discussions on sexuality.

The Secret of Strong Kids (Becky Matchullis)
Resilience is such a buzz word these days and can be overwhelming. God has built within each human soul and spirit all the elements needed for resilience, however, they are uniquely individual to each of us. And they can change within the stages and seasons of our lives. What if you could be taught a model that will help determine the outside influences that build resilience in your children that protect them from stress and adversity? The "Resilience Doughnut" will do just that - come to find out how!

Who Are You? Helping Your Child Know Who They Are According To God (Ron Gray)
Our enemy’s primary point of attack on your child is their identity. In this session, you will discover how to lead your child to identify the enemy’s lies and flourish in God’s truth.

Understanding the Impact of Pornography & Internet Safety
(Cliff Wiebe, Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre)
We are excited to be partnering with the Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre (CPCC) in their new endeavor. The CPCC staff will lead us in a conversation about pornography; how it’s impacting our kids and what we as parents can do about it. We also want to help in a practical way and will have KidsWifi units available for you to purchase, take home, plug in and set up a safe Wi-Fi network in your home.

Learning to Hear God’s Voice in All Things (Jamie Boda)
God is present and active in all things, even when times are difficult. Learning to engage in an ever-expanding awareness of God’s presence and activity in, through and all around us is essential to living a life centered on God. This seminar will help you explore a simple practice that will lead to a growing awareness of how God is at work in your life and in the life of your child.

Marriage Matters (Dave & Kim Mohr)
Coming into marriage we bring certain kinds of beliefs with us, and each one of these beliefs contributes to either a healthy marriage or a challenging one. We want you to catch a vision for what matters most in your marriage, and even give a few practical tips to make it happen. Whether it's handling conflict, growing your friendship, or even parenting your kids, we'll look at how doing marriage well can bring it all together.

Consuming Media: Finding Jesus in the Movies Everyone’s Watching (Michelle Moody)
We all consume stories every day. From blockbuster films to the latest Netflix binge, our media has an increasingly powerful effect on how we and our children view the world. But if we look beyond the special effects and edge-of-your-seat writing, we can find biblical themes that often open doors of conversation with friends and family. By exploring several popular movies and TV shows, we should end up with a stronger ability to find the story of redemption in most of what our families consume.

Let’s Paint! (Hanneke Boersema)
Do you have kids? Do you want your child to encounter God through art? Come and join me in creating a “God-space” for you and your children. By using paint, crayons, and pencil crayons, we will create space to experience God’s presence and hear His voice. Together we will worship God through our art and learn how to do this at home with our own kids. This workshop is for adults. No experience needed!

Journeying Well: Walking Through Anxiety & Depression (Zach Hair)
Current research clearly identifies that there is a growth of addiction and mental health among young people. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), “It is estimated that 10-20% of Canadian youth are affected by a mental illness or disorder – the single most disabling group of disorders worldwide.” As well, “The total number of 12-19 year olds in Canada at risk for developing depression is a staggering 3.2 million.”

Come participate in a session that will equip you to shine light through two different outlets:
1. The biblical truth from the church and scripture.
2. Practical tools and techniques developed through human service organizations.

This invitation is for all to participate and partner to effectively create an environment to bridge the gap between spiritual truth and mental health. The objective is to equip parents, leaders, and your children into spiritual partners that journey well with those who are struggling with anxiety and depression.

COST IS $30 PER FAMILY. Please put "1" in the Quantity box when registering.
