2013 Flood - A New Mother In Need

A powerful example of providing timely aid to a complete stranger.

While working in Bowness with Samaritan’s Purse, Geoff Heth received a phone call from Lisa Congo. Lisa had become aware of a woman who had given birth to a premature baby during the flood. All of her things had been ruined in the flood, including everything she had for the baby. The baby was due to be discharged the following morning, and she had nothing with which to bring the baby home. No car seat, no clothes, no diapers. People Care was able to respond immediately and one of our team made a quick trip to Wal-Mart and was able to purchase a car seat, clothes, diapers, formula and a few other layette items. We put a card from RockPointe in with the items, congratulating this mom on the birth of her baby and offering to come alongside her in the future. The items were delivered to the Bowness Community Association where our People Care team member was able to meet the social worker who had brought this woman to Lisa’s attention. The social worker hugged her and said how grateful she was for RockPointe Church and our willingness to meet the need of a complete stranger. She said the new mom knew we were purchasing items for her, and she was overwhelmed with gratitude.
